About Me

My name is Randy, and I was born and raised right here in San Diego. I’ve been living and breathing construction since I was a kid working alongside my dad and grandpa on carpentry projects. We were the classic kids using power tools with no real supervision to build massive treehouses and forts at home and at our friends' houses—honestly, I was practically running job sites before I turned 10.

In my 20s, I took that lifelong foundation and jumped into the industry full time, starting out as a rough frame carpenter building custom homes from the ground up, which naturally expanded into heavy form work and roofing over time. Eventually, I figured out I could make more money if I hung the sheetrock myself, and even more if I roughed in the plumbing and electrical, too. Before I knew it, I was mastering every single trade on the floor.

Eventually, I felt the pull to transition from the physical tools in the field to the trailer to manage the projects. To back up that career shift, I earned a degree in Construction Management followed by another in Building Inspection. That’s when a family friend, Don—the owner and operator of ACE Home Inspection—took me under his wing, showed me the ropes, and set me firmly on the path to becoming a full-time home inspector. He gave me the foundation I needed, and once he kicked me out of the nest, I officially launched Focus Home Inspection in 2013.

Before
After

Even after starting the inspection business, I never stopped building, and I landed a unique opportunity to build out Mission Brewery’s operations from 2013 to 2018. Over those years, we took over new parts of the building, constructed a brand-new tasting room, doubled their tank capacity, and added a completely new bottling line. Mistakes were made, and hard lessons were learned along the way, but that hands-on crucible sharpened my comprehensive understanding of both residential and commercial construction—giving me the exact field knowledge that makes me a thorough inspector today.

I’ve always considered myself a lifelong learner who is driven to constantly perfect my craft, actively seeking out opportunities to improve my skills and deliver a better product to my clients. Focus Home Inspection is the direct result of decades of hands-on trade work and professional experience bundled into one inspection company. While some inspectors join the industry on a whim or because their knees gave out and their tool bags got too heavy, every accomplishment, project, and career decision has inevitably led me here as the sole owner and operator of one of San Diego’s premier home inspection companies.
